Michele Stengård Biography

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina State University in 1991, Dr. Stengård went on to the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. Dr. Stengård was then accepted into a Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Internship in Massachusetts which was completed in 1997. She then began a 3-year Comparative Veterinary Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. After finishing the residency, Dr. Stengård successfully completed the board certification and became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2000. From 2000 to 2013, Dr. Stengård worked as an ophthalmologist for private veterinary specialty hospitals in Florida. In 2014, she relocated to Switzerland initially teaching at the University of Zürich Veterinary Teaching Hospital. From 2018 to 2022, she worked as a clinician on the Ophthalmology Service at the University of Berne Veterinary Teaching Hospital providing consultations, surgery and teaching students, interns and residents. In 2022, Dr. Stengård founded Blue Sky Animal Eye Specialists and sees cases privately in veterinary referral hospitals in the Zürich area and throughout Switzerland. Special areas of interest include corneal and intraocular surgery.
