Freya Mowat received her veterinary degree from the University of Bristol, England in 2001, and worked in private mixed animal veterinary practice in Cumbria, England from 2001-2003. She completed a small animal rotating internship at Davies Veterinary Specialists from 2003-2004. She earned her PhD in 2009 from University College London, studying molecular mechanisms of oxygen sensing in the retina. She completed her combined residency and postdoctoral position in Comparative Ophthalmology at Michigan State University, and was an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at North Carolina State University until 2019. She is now an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Mowat's research focuses retinal photoreceptor cell biology and the mechanisms of outer retinal injury due to toxicant exposure and aging.
